Visit to the Sagrada Familia Modern Wonder

A few years back, we were in Barcelona for a short stop with top of your list being a stop in to Sagrada Familia. We had heard and read enough about it to think that a visit to this "unfinished" cathedral was worth a visit...and we were blown away.

As impressive as the enormous Sagrada Familia is on the outside, with its large towers, sculptures and overall late Gothic style, the inside is even more stunning. We had no idea the stained glass would be as overwhelming as it turned out to be, and catching the setting sun through them was even more spectacular. Beyond this, the views, architecture and just the sheer size throughout the interior the inside are simply incredible. Take your time to take in the columns, organs and apse, and a climb up the towers, well worth doing. We came back at night as well to get the night view of the outside, and were so glad we did.

We have been to any number of churches around Europe, some of them pretty incredible (Duomo in Florence, Westminster Abbey, Duomo di Milano and scores more), but this was top of the list. May not have the history many of these others do, but it more than makes up for it with all else. If you find yourself in Barcelona, on a cruise, scheduled tour, or for anyone reason at all, this can not be missed...and in fact it is worth planning a trip to Barcelona for this reason only.
