Expat Life in Holland

I'll take a short break from the Wonders theme here to add a quick bit of background on the place I currently call home. My wife and I moved to the Netherlands in May of 2023. Based on the work I was doing, we could pretty much decide where to live, just needed to be a near a major airport, and having lived in a number of places around the Pacific Rim, we wanted a gig in Europe...so we moved here.

Why Holland...why not! To start, it is on the continent, so as opposed to living in the UK or Nordic countries, day trips to other countries by car or train would be quick and easy. Language is not a problem at all, with most everyone we have met speaking English (which is great, because Dutch is not easy language to speak!). The people are fantastic...some of the friendliest, nicest, outgoing and just generally happiest group of people I have met.

And the country itself is fantastic. I'll post some bits about places around later, but suffice to say the Netherlands is SO much more than Amsterdam, which in itself is a great destination where you can lose yourself for days, and in my opinion one of the coolest cities on this Earth. Winter can be a little dreary, think Pacific Northwest but generally not as cold, however there are breaks in the weather, and we have learned to take advantage of them. Idyllic towns all over, castles, forts, nature, and of course the biking, which we love. If you have not been to the Netherlands, it is 100% worth the trip...despite the lack of a Wonder (although the canals of Amsterdam possibly should rank!).
